The Edit
Client Brief
The Brief
The Conference of Robot Learning (CoRL) 2022 attracted 655 participants from around the world, including USA, UK, China, Canada, France, Germany, Australia & more. With such a culturally diverse cohort, having a crew who could move respectfully across different cultural contexts was important – something our uniquely Kiwi team, including Māori and Pasifika crew, brought naturally to the project.
The Approach
With three distinct venues across five days, the brief called for a crew that could move fluidly between formal academic conference proceedings and more social, atmospheric moments – capturing both the academic rigour of the event and the energy of a global community coming together in Auckland.
-
Auckland Museum
The conference opened with a welcome reception, setting the tone for the week and giving the crew an early opportunity to capture delegates connecting against one of Auckland’s most iconic backdrops.
-
Owen G. Glenn Building, University of Auckland
The main conference hub, hosting oral sessions, keynotes, tutorials, industry talks, and the opening and closing/awards sessions. This is where the bulk of the academic content and formal photography took place – speakers on stage, packed sessions, registration, and candid moments between talks.
-
MOTAT Aviation Hall
The week closed with a gala banquet dinner, photographed amid the museum’s aviation exhibits for a memorable, distinctive setting to mark the end of the conference.
The Outcome
Across the 22 hours of coverage, Move Media delivered over 500 hi-res images via an online gallery, alongside a 2-3 minute highlight promo video – giving the University of Auckland and the Robot Learning Foundation a comprehensive visual record of the academic conference to use for marketing, reporting, and archival purposes, while also reflecting the international scale and collaborative spirit of the CoRL community. The CoRL 2022 conference is another example of Move Media’s ongoing work with The University of Auckland.
